The Cherag

Flying Heart

This sacred service or ritual is performed by a cherag (original meaning of the word is “lamp” but here is also meant “servant”) who has been trained in conducting all the ceremonies, and who has been ordained upon completion of the training. Cherag study involves the sacred texts of all the world religions, with emphasis on the Hindu, Buddhist, Zoroastrian, Jewish, Christian and Islamic scriptures. Study also includes symbolism, the ceremonial aspects of the service and its esoteric significance and meaning. Most cherags have also been initiated in the esoteric school of the sufis, a mystical path of inner realization.
